Ergonomically Designed Chair for Pregnant Women
During pregnancy, women experience various symptoms and pain that interfere with daily life activities. In particular, a majority of pregnant workers experience aches and pains associated with prolonged static sitting. However, most chairs currently on the market, even those with generally ergonomic designs, are not specifically made for pregnant women. In order to provide pregnant women with healthier and more comfortable working conditions, I created an ergonomic chair specifically for them. Designed primarily to ease the back pain that results from sudden weight gain, muscle separation, and posture change, this chair has a mesh back and lumbar support. In addition, the design accounts for the weight of the infant by having a cushioned belly band attached to the armrests for pregnant women to lean their stomach on. These features ensure this chair provides sufficient support and comfort for pregnant workers.
How Does Female Body Change During Pregnancy?
When women begin their pregnancy, their center of gravity shifts upward, increasing their vulnerability to tripping over or misstepping.
Similar to how Earth’s gravity is directed to Earth’s core due to its force of attraction, the human body also has a center of mass (or gravity). Vitruvian Man by Leonardo Da Vinci geometrically presents that humans have their mass and gravity centered at the second sacral vertebra; this is approximately where human’s genital is located.
The weight gain during pregnancy ranges between 9 and 14 kg; and this weight gain is mainly located in the trunk, where the baby lies. Due to such matters, women during pregnancy are more needing to buy a chair that can fully support them and their baby.
Blood circulation is essential during pregnancy. This is because, as women’s bodies swollen, their blood pressure gets affected too.
